The high valley
Steep and wild, the high valley offers breathtaking panoramas. Covering the route of the ancient ’Via del Sale’, scene of the thriving trades between the Marquisate of Saluzzo and the neighbouring France, you can run into two remarkable features of the valley: the springs of the Po, the longest river of Italy; and the ’Buco di Viso’, the first tunnel dug through the alps at the end of 15th century. The hole area is a special Natural Reserve, set up to preserve the environment and its precious endemisms. History, traditional architecture and religious buildings reach here the highest devotional expression of Saint Chiaffredo’s cult.
